The coming together of two bodies at the height of intimacy… of touching and caressing – which is called sexual intercourse – has been a subject that even children think they know what it is about. Adults, on the other hand, can’t even imagine that they are in a situation not too different than the little ones when it comes to knowing it in its real essence, function and creative intention.

“Therefore a man (1) shall leave his father and mother and be (2) joined to his wife, and they shall (3) become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24

When reading, meditating and weighing the meaning of each word of this message, we soon notice that there is an order of 1, 2 and 3 steps, and each of these steps are like a treasure map that will lead us to a hidden mine full of glittering gold. That’s precisely it: Sex was not created to be free, gratis, gratuitous, and neither should you pay a monetary value for it. Not at all!

To make it uncomplicated, let’s understand the reason for the existence of this act of extreme intimacy between two people – Notice: I said TWO people and not three, four or ten. Just two people, okay?

The Most High created man with the capability to connect with his Creator. This form of connection is called faith, and it would have its place in the intellect of man. This way, whenever man wanted to connect with the Most High, he could do so, up until the peak of this connection with God, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, who penetrates our being and makes it a permanent dwelling place – however, conditioned to our fidelity.

This happens when we pray in spirit (concentration) and in truth (sincerity). This moment demands privacy and, even if we are in church, with hundreds of people around us or alone, this privacy exists when only I express what I want, and only He answers. No one else can do it. Only you and God can do it, and this act of connecting with God makes me increasingly one with Him. And the more I connect, the more intimate I become with Him.

How about imagining the male and female figure representing God and the human being cited in the example above? That’s right. God made man and woman so that, after following the steps mentioned in Genesis 2:24, they could also connect with each other – always, always and always… and this should make them more and more intimate… stronger, more complicit, more alike and so involved that they would look like the same person in one. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?

And for this reason, bodies were also created with the ability to connect with one another. Everything fits perfectly well where it was made to fit together, without barriers, without dirtiness, without pain… everything in the most perfect harmony.
