You have to dry up the source! Without reservations!

In the passage of 1 Kings 17.6-7, the Bible tells us that the Lord fulfilled the needs of Elijah, a man of God, with bread and meat that the crows brought faithfully and water from the brook. After a few days, the brook dried up.

The end of this supply required a change from Elijah. However, when we live by faith, we do not see the things of God as an end, but as the beginning of new endeavors.

God allowed the brook to dry up so the prophet could find a new source of miracles that would nourish not only Elijah, but also a widow and her son, who would enter into the history of faith as the “Widow of Zarephath” (1 Kings 17.9).

I’ve looked at this campaign of Israel similar to that source that dried up. The life of those who truly sacrifice becomes like a wadi, which is an Arabic word that means valley or canyon that contains a streambed, which generally fills with water after heavy rainfall. When there is a drought, the wadi dries up, thus requiring change.

When we decide to dry up our sources according to God’s directions, He guides us toward new sources that are even more prosperous, sufficient to bless our needs and still provide conditions to reach people who have fallen victim to spiritual droughts.

As the story continues, God prepares the prophet for the showdown of faith on Mount Carmel.
