Will you let it happen?
It is a matter of prioritising what is most important to us all…
‘…when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?’ Luke 18.8
This verse has always touched me. I do not believe it to be a prophecy, nor that it HAS to be so. However, I believe that Jesus left us a warning about its possibility, if we allow such a thing to happen: the disappearance of faith!
Now, we know that, in regards to our relationship with God, everything revolves around faith. The only way to be saved is by faith:
‘For by grace you have been saved through faith…’ Ephesians 2.8
Faith comes through hearing and practising the word of God (Romans 10.17). There is no other way to obtain it, except by the knowledge of the word that comes from the mouth of God and its practice.
Now we understand why so many times, we find in the word of God the guidance to meditate on it, day and night:
‘Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.’ Psalm 1.1-2
‘This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…’ Joshua 1.8
In Hebrew, the word ‘meditation’ is a combination of two words that mean:
1) Speak, as if whispering
2) Walk or move
In order to read the word of God out loud, we have to be by ourselves and, in doing so, we start a dialogue with the Author of the Word, who is God.
It is as if we walk or move towards Him. God teaches us to meditate this way, DAY and NIGHT.
Think with me. If until a century ago, reading was what most occupied people’s time after their daily chores, imagine in biblical times!
There was no television, radio, video games, mobile phones, computers, cinemas or any other means of distraction. People ended up finding, through reading and meditation on the word of God, that it shared their time with work to guarantee their daily bread, and even in radical situations, such as war, as was the case of Joshua. They could very well manage to meditate day and night!
Nowadays, due to countless distractions, the excuses for not reading, let alone meditating on the word of God, are numerous. It is the work of the devil to weaken and completely destroy that which, once lost, leads human beings to also lose their salvation and thus be overcome by him. This is because without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrew 11.6).
Once more, let me say that the Lord Jesus did not prophesy, but cautioned us, or at the very least, put a tag on us: WILL YOU LET THIS HAPPEN?
It is a matter of prioritising what is most important to us all: the maintenance of our faith. For this, when placed in Jesus, is the only source for our eternal salvation.
