Why Jacob?

Imagem de capa - Why Jacob?

Why did God choose Jacob? It was because he had no right. He was second, not first. When it comes to being first, it is already expected that they will receive the blessing.

This is engraved so deep in people’s minds that, although God had told Rebekah that the second child would be greater than the first one, Isaac wanted to bless the firstborn because it was the right thing to do. However, if God had blessed the first child, what would have become of us today?

We were the last in our family – the troubled, despised and useless ones. Therefore, as this is the case, we would already expect from life that, as we were born being nothing, we would die the same way.

This is also how the people who come to the church and seek God are. They are not first, but last. Therefore, God chose Jacob in order to make it very clear to all who come to church – those who are nothing and have no right – that God wants them exactly as they are.

Add to this, the verse below:

“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.” 1 Corinthians 1:27-29
