When 1% is better than 99%
Last week, I read an article that had an eye-catching headline: “Richest 1% will have more wealth than remaining 99%.” Research shows that most of the world’s wealth is in the hands of only 1%. Those who make up this 1% are inventors, researchers or people who tried, somehow, to improve what they were already doing. At first, no one knew who they were, but they had the courage to put their ideas into practice, shared them with others and stood out, such as Henry Ford, Steve Jobs etc.
As I read the article with eyes of faith, I began to understand why there are people who’ve been in Church for years, give their tithes, make vows, praise, but are part of the remaining 99% of this world. These people do not stand out, yet think they are being wronged; however, what they have presented, to God on the Altar, their clients or their boss, is the worst.
Many think that, because they make vows and give their tithes, God is obligated to answer them. In addition, they complaint about the economy, about the government, about their superior or that God does not do justice in their lives, when, in fact, though they believe, their professionalism is much more inferior than an unbeliever’s. These people have ideas but do not apply them, or are too scared to take a risk, making them part of the 99% remaining. This is the purest truth. They want what others have, but do not want to do what others did.
On the other hand, those who come to Church and have an encounter with God’s truth, decide to change their attitudes, sacrifice, manifest their faith and seek to overcome under the guidance of God, dedicate themselves in what they do. They try to do their job to the best of their ability and with quality. There are no obstacles for them. So God, therefore, makes them great.
If I was summoned to court and needed a lawyer to defend me, would I hire a lawyer that I knew was Christian but whose defense was weak? Of course not! I would prefer an incredulous lawyer, who is good at what he does, and use my faith for God to use him. Not that God can’t use the first lawyer I mentioned, however, if the Christian lawyer is faithful, but does not strive to be good, and the unbeliever does, then it is clear who will make a difference. The same is true for doctors, teachers, etc.
The Kingdom of God is a combination of faithfulness and excellence. This is why He said: Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Malachi 1.8
In this case, the priest was doing things however he pleased and the people were following his lead. Afterwards, they would complain that unbelievers were prospering and it was useless to serve God.
Does God do half a miracle? No! Likewise, how can someone be great and make a difference when they think being faithful is enough, and are not good at what they do?
His lord said to him, “Well done, GOOD and FAITHFUL servant… Matthew 25.20
This is why the Universal does not care about quantity, but rather quality. Sometimes, people disagree with what we say, but it does not matter. What matters is that we teach that it’s not enough to simply turn away from one sin, you must repent and turn away from all sins. Its not enough to just go to Church, you must surrender your life 100%. Its not enough to just give an offering, there should be sacrifice. Its not enough to only be faithful, you must also be good. Then you will be part of those who are honored by God with His Righteousness, because there are very few who are willing to pay the price. Though they may only be 1%, God would be pleased with them.
Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God… Hebrews 11.16
Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. Daniel 6.3
Then you shall again discern between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him. Malachi 3.18
