UCKG helps flood victims in Rio

UCKG helps flood victims in Rio

According to the country’s officials, over 700 deaths have been reported due to the heavy rains that hit the cities of Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Nova Friburgo and Sumidouro, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to hundreds of deaths, thousands of people were left homeless. Many of them lost all of their belongings, homes and loved ones.

Once again, The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God has extended their solidarity to the victims. After this unfortunate tragedy took place, the Youth Group mobilized about 10,000 volunteers to start collecting donations and distributing them throughout the affected areas. The group has already received more than 160 tons of food, but they expect to reach the 300 ton mark. The state’s 700 churches have been turned into donation drop-off locations.

In Nova Friburgo, a task force was organized to bring aid to shelters and other areas most affected by the flood. Besides food, the volunteers brought spiritual comfort to all those in need.

The UCKG volunteers are also paying special attention to the members of the Fire Dept., the Police Dept. and the Military, who’ve been hard at work from the beginning when the mudslide first occurred, by bringing them coffee, hot chocolate, cookies and water.

Despite the mobilization on behalf of the victims, church meetings are being held at regular times and on a regular basis throughout the state.

The UCKG urges the people of Rio to aid in collecting clean water, non perishable foods, clean bedding, cleaning products and toiletries.

You don’t need to be a member of the UCKG to donate or volunteer. You just need to love your neighbor, because the members of these communities are in need of our help. And everyone’s help is fundamental.
