Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1.1-3

Those who are unsure walk in the counsel of those who have the spirit of this world. However, those who fear God, listen to the counsel of the Spirit of God. Day and night, the Word of God occupies their thoughts. They find meditating on the Law of the Lord delightful. If you meditate on It day and night, there will be no time for doubts. The counsel of the ungodly brings doubt; the path of sinners is a path of deceit; though it may seem safe to the eyes of the world, its safety is a trap. There is no refuge outside of the secret place of the Most High.

He who meditates on the Word of God and practices It is like a tree planted by the rivers of water. He will not lack anything. He will be nourished. He will be safe. The world considers him crazy. Crazy, because he does not follow the advice of the “wise” of this world. Crazy, because he does not follow the crowd. Crazy, because he chose the narrow path. But the promise he has that everything he does will prosper is greater than any advice from the wise of this world. This promise is life.

EVERYTHING he does will be successful. It does not say “except this” or “excluding that.” NO! Everything is EVERYTHING. This dismisses insecurities. This dismisses any counsel. While the other trees are at the mercy of the weather, depending on others, the tree that is planted by the rivers of water has its guarantees. It may be alone, away from the scornful, away from overcrowded path of sinners, away from the counsel of the ungodly. It may be isolated from this world. But it reaps the benefits of the promise.

Do not rely on anyone’s advice, walk in the counsel of the Word of God.
