The Son’s Great Love

The Lord Jesus came into this world to fulfil God’s purpose (Matthew 20.28)

To this end, He left His glory and assumed the condition of man in order to suffer and die so that He could take our sins to the cross and later resurrect to give us eternal life. Before His death, He prayed to the Father in favour of His disciples.

Jesus knew very well how hard it was to face persecutions, trials, temptations… The disciples would only endure if they were filled with the Holy Spirit. So, He asked the Father to protect them from evil (at that time, they were the first disciples).

“Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.” John 17.11

The Lord Jesus came to save all who believe in Him, that is, those who recognise their sinning nature and know that only through Him can they find forgiveness and salvation. In His prayer, Jesus also asked for those who did not see Him, but would believe in Him through the word.

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;” John 17.20

Today we see the power of this prayer in prisons, for example – in the lives of people who had a bitter past, tainted by so many mistakes and with no hope of turning their lives around. But when they heard the word, they were converted. What is most glorious: they received the Holy Spirit inside prison! How glorious!

As it is written:

“…Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20.29

Today, these people are living witnesses of the power of God. They are transformed, regenerated and above all, are sure of their salvation and want to save others who are still lost, just as they once were.

This is the will of the Lord Jesus: to baptise all in the Holy Spirit so they we may be one with Him and the Father.

“By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” 1 john 4.13

May God bless you all!
