The role of the devil

We should walk in an integral, upright and sanctified way…

The Bible says that when the children of Israel went to present themselves before God, Satan was in their midst. The devil was there and, looking at him, God asked:

“Have you considered My servant Job…?” Job 1.8

Here we clearly see the role of the devil: TO CONSIDER, or OBSERVE the servant of God.

At all times, he observes, analyses and studies the servant of God. That is why it is important for us to walk in righteousness, so that the devil does not find any inclination towards perversities or evil in us.

The devil does not know our thoughts, as he is not omniscient like God. So if he does not know what we think, why then does the servant of God fall?

The answer lies in our reactions and behaviour. From them, the devil can work out what our thoughts and intentions will be.

Just as a mother knows her children through their actions, even though they do not speak about it, she is able to discern what they think. So it is with the devil. He knows mankind because before we were created, he already existed. The devil observes and analyses our reactions and actions, and ends up knowing what is most intimate in us.

This is why Jesus warns us:

“Watch and pray…” Matthew 26.41

Jesus knows that the devil observes us but for those who have the same character as Job, the devil cannot touch them. They are protected and guarded by the Most High.

This teaching should cause fear and make us alert because the devil scrutinises us every day. He wants us to have a flaw in our character so that this can give him a breach through which he can enter our lives.

It is important to remember that God also looks at us:

“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him…” 2 Chronicles 16.9

His eyes watch over us, just as they did Job. However, for that to happen, we have to walk as Job walked, and live as he lived: BLAMELESS, UPRIGHT, and SHUN EVIL.

The devil observes us to bring us down. God observes us to USE us. Whoever walks in righteousness will forever be safe in the BOSOM OF THE MOST HIGH.

“For thus says the High and Lofty One. Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isaiah 57.15

May God bless you much more!
