In just a couple of hours, 308,579 books were sold in seven events that took place simultaneously. This number is a result of more than 120 thousand people who sought to get a signed copy of the autobiography of Bishop Macedo, founder and leader of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, on Saturday (17). With today’s events, more than 1 million copies of the third volume have been sold. Overall, the three volumes of the work have sold more than 7 million copies worldwide and have been translated into at least six languages.

On Saturday, five cities in Sao Paulo held the book release of Nothing to Lose 3 – From the Bandstand to The Temple of Solomon: A Faith that Transforms. Campinas, Ribeirao Preto, Santos, Sao Bernardo do Campo and Sao Paulo wrapped up the book release in the state of Sao Paulo. This was one of the largest book sales to take place in a single day, reinforcing the publishing success that bishop Macedo’s life story has become.

The book release of Bishop Macedo’s autobiography in Sao Paulo, which was co-authored with Douglas Tavolaro, vice president of the Rede Record Journalism department, already had thousands of people forming lines hours before the book signings began. Not even the intense heat from the sun prevented the usual agglomerations from forming.

In this third volume, the bishop shares untold stories and life lessons he experienced as a father and husband. In exciting testimonials, Bishop Edir Macedo speaks about his marriage to Mrs. Ester Bezerra, which has lasted over 40 years.

In Sao Paulo, the book was launched at the Cultura do Conjunto Nacional bookstore, one of the main references of Paulista Avenue. Various authorities and celebrities, like actors and journalists, were present at the event.

The books were autographed by bishop Renato Cardoso, who was there to represent Bishop Edir Macedo, and bishop Domingo Siqueira. Both of them met everyone who waited in line and made sure they received an autographed copy.

Among the authorities present was the mayor of Itaquaquecetuba, Mamoru Nakashima (PTN), who said he was pleased with the success of one more book release and reinforced Bishop Macedo’s important role.

– He is very prominent in society, especially in Itaquaquecetuba, where he has a considerably large following.

Luiz Claudio Costa, president of Record group, recalled that many Brazilians have been inspired by the bishop’s story.

– Brazil is lacking good examples. Brazil is lacking people that the population can look to as a role model. And the successful book sales show that many people have followed bishop Macedo’s good example.
Gugu Liberato, a Brazilian TV host, also praised the work and said that even more books should be published in the future.

– His story is so complex and the Universal Church has grown so much in 38 years, he must still have so much to tell. There should be more books because his life story is very rich.

The overcrowded book releases are proof that people want to know more about bishop Macedo’s biography, said bishop Renato Cardoso, who is married to Cristiane Cardoso, Edir’s daughter.

– This shows that people are interested in knowing who this person is that, in a way, changed the course of Brazil on several occasions. He changed the country’s course in regards to religion; he changed the course of Brazil in regards to the media and communication. I think he’s unrecognized or little known when it comes to these things.

In regards to the changes bishop Macedo led throughout Brazil and the world, bishop Cardoso highlighted the humbleness when it came to his intentions.

– He acted with boldness and, most importantly, without second intentions. He did not start off by saying “I am going to change Brazil”. His only intention was to help people. And because of this, he changed many things, much more than he thought he would change.

The work

The Nothing to Lose trilogy narrates the story of bishop Edir Macedo, told from different aspects. The first book, Nothing to Lose – Moments of Belief that Changed My Life, revealed the obstacles that were overcome by the greatest leader of the evangelical segment of the country and surpassed the milestone of 1 million copies sold.

The second volume, Nothing to Lose 2 – My Challenges When Facing the Impossible, reports the achievement of Record TV, which was a course that involved great dilemmas and confrontations. The first two books sold over 4 million copies throughout the world.

The last book in the series, Nothing to Lose 3 – From the Bandstand to The Temple of Solomon: A Faith that Transforms, has moving accounts from a person who overcame all kinds of adversities and gained millions of faithful followers in the most remote places on the planet. The book also reveals a little bit of bishop Macedo’s life as a father and husband. In its pages, you can find some pictures from the bishop’s personal archive and secrets about marriage, which has aroused the curiosity of many readers.

Absolute success

In just a few weeks, Nothing to Lose 3 managed to beat another record and became 2014’s biggest publishing phenomenon in Brazil. The autobiography of bishop Macedo has become, in less than two months, the best-selling book of the year.

Only in 2014, about 800,000 copies were sold, becoming the largest national bestseller, ahead of global successes such as The Fault in our Stars by John Green. Until today, the second volume still appears among the top sellers ranking second in the Publish News, which is the main thermometer of the Brazilian publishing market.

This was the second consecutive year that the work had the highest sales in the country. In 2013, Nothing to Lose 2 was also the largest national bestseller, and also had successful sales throughout the world.

Since the book release, the work also appears in first place in the magazine rankings of Veja and Epoca, and it appears at the top of the bestseller lists of the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo.

Soon, Nothing to Lose 3 will be released worldwide in countries like Africa, Asia and the United States.
