The Guarantee of the Spirit

All that we have as a guarantee of eternity is an intimate conviction

Placing an asset as a guarantee of payment has been a common practice in society. It would already happen in Paul’s time, who, led by the Holy Spirit, took advantage of this custom to make the Christians in Ephesus aware of their promising and eternal future.

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1.13-14 (NIV)

In a more simplified version we can read:

“…after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” (NKJV)

Clearly the text does not refer to the false or carnal Christians. Only to those born of the Spirit.

It is extremely glorious to live in the faith that the sacrifice of the will of our flesh, for the sake of the Lord Jesus, has an immediate compensation.

We did not see Jesus, neither do we feel or touch Him. We have not seen Heaven or the angels, nothing of the sort…

The only guarantee we have from the Eternal One is an intimate conviction.

This type of conviction had already been prophesied by Jesus when He said:

“…because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20.29

Therefore, as God’s Special Treasure, those born of the Spirit have a seal of guarantee. As long as they are loaned out to this world to do God’s work of saving others, they have the Holy Spirit of the Promise., who testifies in their own spirit of their redemption when the Lord Jesus returns.

They are possessions of His glory.
