The good desert
In the soap opera JESUS, which is a milestone in Brazilian television, we see the Holy Spirit leading the Lord Jesus into the desert. Why is this?
Let’s understand why our Lord was taken to the desert:
Therefore, behold, I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfort to her. Hosea 2.14
In the book of Hosea, God calls His people, who were distant, back to Him. The reason that people have turned away from God is the same that makes many turn away today. It is normal nowadays in big cities, with “so many” things occupying our minds and time, to find excuses that we have no time for God, to pray, meditate on the Word, and to invest in our relationship with the Most High.
We become occupied with futile things and distracted by the Internet (from the comfort of our homes), and end up displeasing God, giving an offering like Cain’s.
The apostle Paul referred to the danger of distractions 2,000 years ago when there was no theater, cinema, Internet, social media, etc.
And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction. 1Corinthians 7.35
We can conclude that the “desert” for us today is the Fast of Daniel. Only those who are led by the Holy Spirit, such as the Lord Jesus, freely accept to enter this desert.
So, God speaks to us what He usually cannot say. Imagine how many things God wants to speak to us about, and we end up not listening. This is why things happen that should not happen (and it is not God’s fault)!
As an example, John the Baptist had one of the most important missions in the history of humanity: to prepare the way for the Savior and Lord (Luke 3.4). We can read the seriousness of his mission in the following verse:
So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel. Luke1.80
Dear readers, it is an honor to take part in the Fast of Daniel or the Desert of Our Lord Jesus. Our spiritual growth is evident as we become more like our Lord Jesus!
The desert is good!
