The Emptiness of the Soul
It isn’t due to the lack of love or the possession of life’s many superfluous things. It’s not a sorrow or a joy. It is, although, an uncomfortable, awkward and cruel feeling. It’s like a gaping hole in your chest that keeps getting bigger. It’s an inescapable black smudge on the soul. Not even the possession of a high social status can minimize the pain. If it weren’t for the sad look on their face, the victim wouldn’t have anything to complain about. Many call it anxiety, depression or even emptiness.
From a spiritual point of view, the emptiness of the soul is nothing more than a thirst for God.
Just like a car needs fuel to run; many electric devices need electricity to operate; and the body needs food to function, it’s God’s presence that fills the soul and gives meaning to life.
Cars don’t run on beans, electrical appliances don’t operate on gasoline and the body can’t survive on electricity. Likewise, a soul without God perishes.
Through a desperate cry, it signals its emptiness. Where can it find the shelter and medicine to meet its needs?
The Word of God has the answer:
The law of the Lord restores the soul. Psalm 19
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. Psalm 42
On Sunday, February 6, 2011, at 9:30Am, we’ll be giving the Water that quenches the thirst of the emptiness of the soul.
