The Challenge
The challenges you face reveal the magnitude of your faith. Challenges are made during desperate situations; when you are losing your life to a deadly disease, when your stomach is growling but you don’t have anything to eat, when your marriage is on the brink of divorce, when you are about to lose a loved one, when you are in a life or death situation.
Everyone that accepts a challenge does it because they have revolted against the situation and no longer accept to live in those circumstances.
We have various examples in the Bible, one of them tells of the desperation of a widow who, because of her husband’s debts, was about to lose her two sons. When the prophet asked her what she had at home, the widow replied: Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil. (2 Kings 4.1-7)
This small amount of oil was not enough to pay her debts. What turned her desperate situation around was the challenge she made.
The prophet told the widow to borrow vessels from all of her neighbors, not just of some of her neighbors, but all of them, and not only a few vessels, but many of them.
He did not want to put a limit on her faith; therefore, he did not determine a specific amount of vessels. Imagine if he would have asked her for 1000 and she only had faith to bring 500, or if he asked 500 and she had faith to bring 1000.
Faith is a power that should not have limits.
The widow’s attitude would determine the outcome of that challenge, big or small, it depended on her and no one else, and that is why everyone has their own individual faith.
We reap what we sow. Today’s answer is the result of yesterday’s challenge, and tomorrow’s answer will be the result of today’s challenge.
When the vessels finished, the oil stopped. Once we stop living by faith, day after day, we put our salvation at risk and our successes come to an end.
In addition to paying all of her debts, the widow and her children lived off of the leftovers. She went from have debts, to becoming a merchant.
Considering that, during this time, oil was very commercialized, those who had oil had money, food and a source of energy. This is why it is the symbol of the HOLY SPIRIT, THOSE WHO HAVE IT HAVE THE FULLNESS OF GOD AND ARE HAPPY.
Many find themselves in a similar situation as the widow. So what should they do in this case?
THE PROPHET ASKED THE WIDOW: WHAT DO YOU HAVE?
If you are conformed to the situation, forget about it! But if you are revolted against the situation, then you are ready for the challenge!
Those who believe move forward, those who do not believe stay behind.
