Statement denying biased news article

The Universal Church denies the ridiculous statements that were published in certain newspapers and websites, accusing the church of disclosing the names of all its church members that haven’t been faithful with their tithes and offerings, to the SPC/Serasa (a Brazilian credit bureau). This is a complete lie.

This article was published in several implausible media outlets that deserve to be discredited and ignored for publishing such false information.

Church leaders vehemently deny these accusations. They’ve stated that it’s completely untrue and that the church, whose main objective is to spread the Word of God, would be incapable of doing such things. Tithes and offerings are biblical principles and the Universal Church does not impose or require people to make donations.

Everything that is given by church members is done liberally, by their own free will. This means that the Church doesn’t have control over whether or not members have been giving their offerings. Especially, since many of the offering and tithe envelopes don’t even have the person’s information or the amount of their donation.

Therefore, the Universal Church’s Legal Department confirms that there is no possible way to keep track of who’s been giving their offerings or how much they’ve been giving because every member has their own free will. As a result, it’s logically impossible for the Church to send someone’s name to collection with the SPC/Serasa.

The Universal Church is going to take the necessary legal actions against the media outlets that published this false information.

LEGAL DEPARTMENT OF THE UNIVERSAL CHURCH OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Below is the poorly written article that was published by a newspaper that does not care about lying to its readers:

Whoever doesn’t pay their tithes to the Universal Church will have their credit ruined

Bishops of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), founded by Edir Macedo, decided to enroll the organization with the SPC/Serasa, in attempt to reduce member’s “default” with their tithe payments.

If you’re already in debt with the UCKG and want to avoid having your name on their blacklist, you must contact their finance department and renegotiate your debt.

You’ll be able to divide your payments if you use a credit card or debit car; the interest rate is 72% per month.
Church leaders haven’t disclosed any names yet, but it’s estimated that the church has been experiencing monthly losses of about $1 billion because of these default payments. Besides acquiring bad credit, faithful church members may have to pay a fine for leaving the Universal Church for another church.
