Put to shame
Worse than not knowing anything outside the limits of poverty, is having a life of luxury and then watching as it crumbles. The same must happen with those who’ve felt the joy of salvation, but somehow got too involved with the cares of this world and forgot about their spiritual values.
Many say, “Oh, Bishop! I want to come back to church but I’m not strong enough. Pray for me”, as if a prayer would solve their problem. No, it won’t.
What kind of prayer can force you to take action?
What kind of prayer can make those who’ve fallen, rise?
Jesus ordered the paralytic to, “Get up, take your mat and walk…” Mark 2:9
He didn’t do a prayer. He simply ordered him to get up, take his mat and go home. Get up, take and go are individual actions. They require personal action.
However, although many fallen Christians are in perfect health, they still expect more to be done for them. They want to be carried along with their respective crosses. Their faith is indolent and indifferent. They want to reach Heaven without having to leave the world behind. They continuously ask for prayer like if it were some type of magic capable of putting their faith back on track.
And why don’t they pray for themselves, have some shame and come back with their own two feet?
Because, deep down in their heart, they disregard the sacrifice that was made by the Son of God.
“Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water.” Jeremiah 17:13
