Practical faith

When reading the Bible, we should always bear two things in mind: the practical and the non-practical information.
The practical one not only helps us change but it also shapes our behaviour before God and before others.
The non-practical one, however, only helps us gather knowledge that adds nothing. It’s like strange tongues, which can’t be of any help to others unless someone interprets them.
In my point of view, knowledge is valuable only if it’s practical.
Job is a practical example of faith, even though he didn’t perform any miracles. He typified Jesus through his pure conduct. For this reason, God honoured him before the devil.
His integrity and righteousness revealed his character toward others. He was just when doing business because he feared God. This fear was what refrained him from doing what was wrong when dealing with others.
And to preserve his communion with God, he would always make sure he ran away from evil.
Is it easy to behave like this in such a corrupt society, where moral and spiritual values have been trampled on? In a world where the law is every man for himself and damn the rest?
No, it’s not!
The corruption of his time was the same in the time of Noah, Abraham, Naomi, Ruth and Daniel. And what was their secret?
Their secret was to assume their faith in God in a practical way.
Strangely enough, there is an excellent opportunity to be like them nowadays. Just act your faith and give this unbelieving world the same lesson Jesus gave Philip. When Philip asked Jesus to show him the Father, He answered:
“Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” (John 14.9)
It’s every Christian’s duty to show Jesus to the world through the testimony of their lives. This is the true principle of Christian faith!
