Outward Corruption
God knows all of mankind’s inner conflicts. He also faced them when He was in the world.
His prayer, “Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39), reflects this very well.
In the war between the inward and outward, soul and spirit, heart and reason, flesh and spirit, there is always a winner, which will decide the fate of our soul.
The Spirit of God doesn’t always overcome the flesh. This is because the flesh, the outward, the soul and the heart – are all the same – “for it is not subject to the law (God’s will), nor indeed can be!” Romans 8:7
However, the outward man’s corruptions or works of the flesh don’t have the power to prevent the inner man’s spiritual values from being compromised. Only if that person truly wants it…
The inner man has many resources to counteract the outward man’s tactics.
The confessing of sins, repenting, praying, fasting, the wearing of sackcloth, etc. are all means to rise above sin.
For example, a man falls into sin. From that moment on, the devil starts accusing him constantly. His conscience hurts. He knows something is wrong.
What should he do? Allow himself to become discouraged or use his weapons of faith and get back up?
Because he’s aware that forgiveness comes from a sincere confession, he takes action and by faith, is immediately forgiven.
From that point on, he does everything in his power to return to his original state of being at peace with God by turning away from sin and the past.
Thus forth, another life is rescued because they used practical faith, which has nothing to do with feelings. Only obedience.
This is the faith that Paul has passed on to us, when he tells us not to give up because of the weakness of the flesh.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16
