Oath of a soldier

Imagem de capa - Oath of a soldier

Good morning Bishop!

I served in the Brazilian Army about 30 years ago.

Recently, the events in Brazil have reminded me of the moments I lived, and something in particular: the oath as a soldier of the Army Corps, when we promise to serve the Homeland and strictly obey the authorities. I still remember the last sentence of the oath: “with the sacrifice of my own life!”

In moments of peace, a soldier does not expect to use his own life. Many there, because of mandatory service, say it but don’t really mean it.

However, the fact that the Lord Jesus went to the extreme of giving His own life, His Body and His Blood for the spiritual homeland truly caught my attention.

A soldier has the example of his direct commander, the captain, and we have the Lord Jesus as our War General.

We must have this same pact to serve the Lord Jesus, to be imitators of Him, to sacrifice our own flesh for our Salvation. And sacrifice our lives and blood for those who are suffering, for the souls, for the heavenly homeland.
