AFTER these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward. Genesis 15.1

The verse above shows that everything began with one word. This word came to change Abraham’s vision. God never speaks unnecessarily, and even in this case, He begins by saying, “Do not be afraid!”

Why did this happen? Because Abraham must have been overcome with fear and looking at the circumstances.

In the same verse, God reveals Himself as His shield and His great reward. However, Abraham reveals that his eyes were set on the realization of having a son. This is, while he was thinking about a son, God said, “I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

This illustrates the reality of many today: people are constantly afraid and asking for things and in favor of people, but God says, “Do not be afraid! I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward!”

And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” Genesis 15.4

Then, God says in verse 4 that the one who will come from his own body would be his heir, which means that a person’s life is what comes out of him. This is the reason why the Holy Spirit is necessary, because He works within you so that what comes out will bring you life. This means that the source is inside you.

And what did God do next?

Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15.5-6

You have to look toward heaven. This is where your eyes must be set. How many times have you looked up to the sky? Where have your eyes truly been set? How many times a day do you think about where you will spend eternity?

And verse 6 says, “He believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.”This is, he accepted the proposal.

So do you accept this proposal too, or will you keep your eyes set on what you’ve been looking at until now?
