In the Shadow of the Spirit

The miracle of a new life follows the same pattern as the birth of Jesus, the Son of God: The Spirit of the Most High came upon (overshadowed) Mary, and Jesus was conceived.

The same process occurs when others are born of the Spirit, the children of God.

Thirty years later, Jesus taught a teacher of religion how to become a true child of God:

…unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. John 3.5

To be born of water involves an exchange of your thoughts for the thoughts of God. God’s holy water washes away all the idle, useless, vain thoughts, and replaces them with the living thoughts of God.

The birth of the Spirit occurs according to the angel’s account to the virgin Mary:

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Luke 1.35 HCSB

This is what needs to happen to everyone who humbly believes in the Word of God.

Because of this, the holy being that will be born will also be called a child of God. To complete this train of thought, the Holy Spirit says through Paul:

But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Romans 8.9 HCSB

The question is: Have you already received the Spirit of Christ?
