Flame of fire
Getting up earlier than usual helps me have time to read the Word of God, even before my day starts… what a privilege!
In Psalm 104, we read about God’s greatness and how all His wonderful creation is but a small drop of water in a bucket.
But one passage made me stop and think,
Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a Flame of Fire… Psalm 104.4
God’s messengers (angels) are made of wind, also referred to in the Bible as spirit.
The angels of God are already spirits, so why is the psalmist here saying they are made of the Spirit?
He is talking about God making His angels spirits, and His ministers like a flame of fire. If the angels of God are already spirits, then the psalmist is talking about another type of angel, those who are not spirits, those who are made “a little lower than the angels” (Hebrews 2.7), referring to us. But not all of us. Not every person or even Christian will receive such a benefit from God.
When you are spirit, you see beyond what your eyes see. You have an incredible strength, the kind that people cannot understand… it may even seem a bit strange. How can a mother not worry about her child when he is going from bad to worse? Those who are spirit can. How can a woman, who is thirty years old and still single, not worry about her love life? The one who is spirit can.
Like my brother-in-law says, when you are spirit, you have a sixth sense. You are not limited to your five senses. You can hear and see things and still keep your faith in what you cannot see or hear.
Therefore, who can be a spirit?
Those who are BORN of the Spirit of God. When this wonderful miracle happens, you become the witness of God in this world. You have what it takes to share Him with others.
As the Psalm above says, you become like a Flame of Fire. Note that he does not say “flames of fire” – it is not in the plural, that’s strange, right? All those who have the Spirit of God are like a flame of fire, this is, they are one with Him.
He is the fire, and we are His flame.
