Those who have faith to forgive have faith to receive forgiveness.

Only those who’ve been forgiven have the authority to forgive their wrongdoers. God cannot forgive our wrongdoers for us. Such immeasurable power belongs only to those who possess a sick heart. This is why He compels us to forgive.

Only those who have a heart free from sorrow are able to wish good upon others. How can a soul full of sorrows bless someone or desire something good?

A Christian may have faith to conquer a good marriage, achieve financial success, receive healing, this is, faith to win the whole world, but if he does not have faith to forgive, he will not have the faith to obtain forgiveness. After all, it is written and determined:

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6.14-15

Take a look:

In the parable of the Unforgiving Servant (Matthew 18.23-35), the Lord Jesus makes it clear that our debt to Him is infinitely greater than the debts we contract among us, miserable humans.

Take a look at these numbers:

The first servant owed the King 10,000 talents;

1 talent is equal to 6 thousand days of work (6 thousand denarii);

The servant’s debt was equal to 10,000 talents times 6,000 denarii = 60 million denarii;

This means the servant would have to work 60 million days to pay off his debt. Therefore, he would need to live and work approximately 165,000 years.

The second servant owed the first only 100 denarii, this is, a little more than three months of work. But he did not forgive him.

What the Lord Jesus wants to make clear is that our debts to Him are priceless. Yet, in the face of our humiliation and confession of sins, He forgives us.

However, He requires us to forgive each other’s faults, failures, and mistakes. Otherwise, we will never find His forgiveness either.
