“Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm. So, the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful; nor was there any error or fault found in him.” (Daniel 6:3-4).

Daniel distinguished himself among the others because he had an excellent spirit, in other words, he was an honourable, faithful, fearful and righteous man. He did not corrupt and deceive himself with the glow of fame or with the temporary power that was given to him. On the contrary, he preserved his faith and faithfulness even in an environment dominated by sin.

Those born of God also have this excellent spirit because they possess His character. That is why, wherever they are, their behaviour is the same for they are not corrupted, neither do they ever deny their faith (Matthew 10:32-33).
