Dry wellsprings
Unfortunately, many people have insisted on their mistakes, even though they’ve already been shown the Path to a change of life.
And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be neither dew nor rain these years, except at my word. 1 Kings 17.1
Elijah caught the attention of King Ahab as to what would happen if he remained on the wrong path, which was leading all of Israel to ruin. During those three and a half years without rain, everyone suffered misery, famine and endured much pain, but his pride, and arrogance wouldn’t let him turn to God and see the real cause of such misfortune. Instead, the king preferred to look for alternatives to solve the problem.
And Ahab had said to Obadiah, “Go into the land to all springs of water and to all the brooks; perhaps we may find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, so that we will not have to kill any livestock.” So they divided the land between them to explore it; Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself. 1 Kings 18.5-6
How many people have searched for alternative sources and rivers that are dry? They try to be happy without having a relationship with God. They move to another city or country in search of prosperity, they kill themselves by working so hard, they abandon their families because they don’t have time to spend with them, and despite everything they do, they still don’t have anything.
Others, because they are unhappy in their marriage, think that getting a new spouse will make them happy, so they’re in their second, third relationship… but the failure remains the same.
They are patients who have been to many specialists, including seeking treatment overseas, yet this incurable disease is still consuming them.
Parties, drugs, alcohol, travel, “enjoying life”… this has been the relentless search for a little water to quench the thirst of the soul, and the worst thing is that each day these people are more empty, more depressed and many even want to die.
All this happens because they do not want to see and recognize the real problem; the same spirit of pride that was in Ahab is in many people today. They prefer to deceive themselves by looking for a solution in dry sources instead of surrendering to what the LIVING WATER has to offer.
Elijah showed the reason for so much suffering by revealing what was behind the chaotic situation.
Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. 1 Kings 18.30
As long as your altar is in ruins, your life will be in ruins. As long as your altar is broken down, you will be broken down. This is inevitable, and there is no escape!
The Altar represents communion with the Most High, a place of sacrifice, of surrender, of being dependent on the Almighty God. Things only change after a person understands this and obeys.
Do not let pride and arrogance cause you to suffer anymore! Restore your altar, repent and you will see the FIRE OF GOD, which is the Holy Spirit, descend upon your life and restore all that was destroyed.
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You shall be ashamed. “Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.” Jeremiah 17.13
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4.13-14
May God bless you and help you understand these things!
