Build your Parapet
God’s care is so great...
“When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring guilt of bloodshed on your household if anyone falls from it.” Deuteronomy 22:8
The Lord God instructed the children of Israel on the importance of the parapet (a low protective wall along the edge of a roof). He instructed that whenever a new house was being built, a parapet should be built on the roof. This is so that if someone fell, they would not blame the house for their fall.
God’s care is so great that He sees the smallest details for our own good.
This has been very common behaviour coming from those who are not well spiritually: blaming the church (house) or other people for their fall.
However, if we build our parapet – which shows our limits – we will know where to step and therefore, we will not fall.
The parapet is the fear of God. The Word of God teaches us this and allows us to know how far we can go with our words, actions and reactions. Anything beyond that is a sure fall.
Let us each build our own parapet and not that of the neighbour’s house.
