An unprecedented Saturday with hard to forget scenes took place in Rio de Janeiro and New York City.
These two events brought a never before seen number of people to the bookstores and set historic high record sales at the launch of the book “Nothing to Lose”.

Thousands of New Yorkers braved the cold and snow, and lined up for miles and miles, more than 18 blocks in Manhattan, to get their copy of Bishop Edir Macedo’s memoir. It was a milestone in the most important editorial market on the planet.

The famous McNally Jackson Books bookstore, one of the most respected intellectual points in the United States, never received a movement of such proportions.

Former California governor and movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger launched his biography at the same bookstore, but sold only 200 copies. “Nada a Perder” sold 72,196 and its English version received the title “Nothing to Lose”.

The launch was also a success in Rio de Janeiro, at a shopping centre in the northern part of the city, where the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God started. An impressive 178,962 books were sold, surpassing South Africa and Angola, nailing the new world record of the latest book releases in Brazil.

There were so many people that the book signing began at 10 am and only ended Saturday night, under the strong heat. An incalculable number of people passed through the signing tables, a great feast that will remain in the memories of the people of Rio.

The assistants and older members of the UCKG received the first copies signed by Bishop Clodomir Santos. Many were touched by the recognition.

In New York, Bishop Romualdo Panceiro represented Bishop Macedo at the launch, which had been postponed from the previous Saturday due to a heavy snowfall. The book drew the attention of the American press.

Throughout the week, the co-author of the book, Douglas Tavolaro, vice president of Rede Record’s journalism department, was invited by The New York Times, Bloomberg Newsweek magazine, the TV stations CNN and the leader of audience ABC, where he was received by the president of the company to speak about the book.

“Nothing to Lose” was also received at the UN, the United Nations, by commissioner Malaak Shabazz, a renowned civil activist who fights against prejudice around the world.

This Sunday (17), The New York Times published a great article about the launch, highlighting the huge demand for the book and the crowds that formed outside the bookstore.

The newspaper points out that, even though it may have seemed like it, “this wasn’t the launch of a new smartphone, or ticket sales to a Beyoncé concert and much less the sales of a book about vampires or wizards, those that the kids love.”

The text also contains an explanation of the history of faith of Bishop Macedo and summarizes the success story of “Nothing to Lose”.
