Abram followed God, and Lot followed Abram
Good afternoon, Bishop!
This morning I was meditating on what we spoke about on Sunday, about Abram and Lot, and I came across a sad reality about some of the people that “do” the Work of God.
We can clearly see that Abram had an intimate communion with God.
The Lord had said to Abram… (God spoke to him) Genesis 12.1;
So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him (Abram obeyed) Genesis 12.4;
There he built an altar to the Lord (Abram made a sacrifice) Genesis 12.7;
When he came to another region, in Bethel, it says “there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.” (In other words, he continued to sacrifice and was now invoking Him as well. He did not base his life on what he had done in the past. Instead, he lived a life of sacrifice, sacrifice and sacrifice). Genesis 12.8;
Abram continued his journey and returned to where? “To the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.” Genesis 13.4
Conclusion, Abram listened to the voice of God, spoke to God, obeyed Him and sacrificed to Him – CONTINUOUSLY.
And what about Lot? The Bible states the same thing several times: Lot followed Abram, he followed in his shadow.
I was thinking about how there are many people who do the Work of God the same way. They follow the flow, they follow what is being said for them to do, but they do not have direction, a revelation, experiences. They cannot see what is going to change the situation of the place and those people.
What’s worse is that, even though Lot followed the person that sacrificed, he wasn’t able to persevere until the end. The time came when a problem arose and they separated, which is also what has happened to many: they follow for a while, but they’re unable to go all the way. Why is that? Because they do not listen and do not talk to God. They do not obey and do not sacrifice.
For this reason, we have pastors, wives or assistants who are “Abram” or “Lot”.
