A Covenant in the Sky

The heavenly arc shows us that the Word of God does not get old, nor does it fail

In the second week of the Genesis soap opera, during the scene in which God made a covenant with Noah and every living being, a heavenly arc in the form of a circle appeared. Many people did not understand the reason behind this shape, but the soap opera is spot on. From the height where they stood, at Mt. Ararat, this is exactly how this heavenly arc is seen, as you can observe from real videos made by people who filmed it from above.

As the aircraft ascends, we discover how the arc is seen from the sky. From the ground, we only see a semi-circle because of the curvature of the earth. But from the sky and God’s point of view, it is a complete circle – like a ring!

I remembered that He said He would put an arc in the clouds so that every time HE SAW the arc, He would be reminded of the covenant He made with men and the animals.

“I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” Genesis 9:13-16

Just look at God’s faithfulness! He doesn’t suffer from memory loss, He doesn’t need reminders, but He makes a point to place a sign so that it is made clear that there is no possibility of Him not fulfilling His word. The Heavenly Arc shows us that the word of God never gets old, nor does it fail. And that, just as what was promised in the beginning of Genesis continues to be fulfilled, He will not forget any of His promises.

When we see the Heavenly arc from earth, we are in fact seeing half of a ring. It is a good moment for us to remember our part – the faithfulness we owe Him. It is also a good moment for us to remember that, from God’s position, He is seeing a complete ring. His promises are eternal and never grow old.

This covenant happened thousands of years ago. However, for Him, it is as if it were yesterday. This is also how our faithfulness towards Him must be, regardless of how long ago the first pact was made, regardless of what may have happened along the way. For us, it has to be as if our marriage to the Lord Jesus had taken place yesterday. This is because a word given on the Altar never grows old.
