The book, “A Bulletproof Marriage – Making Your Marriage Divorce-Proof”, is a course for those who want to protect their relationship from misunderstandings, frustration and, most importantly, divorce.

It’s no surprise that within its first week it was ranked among the Top 10, and within the last week, rose to 2nd place in the self-help category on PublishNews’ list — the most prestigious rating agency for booksellers and publishers in Brazil. In Veja magazine’s list it is ranked 9th.

Cristiane and Renato Cardoso have been married for 21 years, and based on their time together they decided to write this book. Both went through difficult times in their marriage — immaturity, a lack of attention and communication, among other common relationship problems — and explain in a straightforward way in this book what couples can do to stop their marriages from becoming “war zones” and how to have a solid, happy marriage.

With an initial printing of 230,000 copies, the book, published by Thomas Nelson Brazil, has a foreword written by former Brazilian basketball player Oscar Schmidt.

Their book launch was held at Culture Bookstore in São Paulo, and close to 3,000 ordinary and famous people attended. Among them was journalist Celso Cavalini.

In an interview with Arca Universal he said that he’s been in a new relationship over the last 8 months and expected to learn a lot just by reading the book. “The title by itself lets us know that there are people who still value the institution of marriage. I know it’ll help me learn patience and, above all, love,” he said.

The authors pointed out the reason behind their book: “The biggest regret of people who’ve gone through divorce is that they didn’t do more to save their marriages while there was still time. This book is the ‘more’ that couples haven’t yet tried. But it’s also a safeguard against future problems that are guaranteed to come, even to the best of couples.”
