Why humans have to work for their food

Imagem de capa - Why humans have to work for their food

From the ant to the elephant, the mosquito to the whale, none of these animals need to work to eat. Yes, they have to make an effort to get their food, but they don’t have to work in the sense of making money to exchange that money for food. Only humans need to do that.

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Matthew 6:26

The reason behind this lies back in Eden. In the beginning of it all, men did not have to work to eat either. God gave them “every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food” and said: “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat…” Genesis 2:9,16

Yet man was not satisfied with all the trees God gave, neither all the animals, birds, fish, water, minerals or anything else nature had to offer. He wanted the very tree that God had not authorized him to touch. He wanted everything for himself.

God had set one rule, but man didn’t know how to respect the one rule that was there for his own good, so man went and took what wasn’t his. And so a curse came upon man: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life… In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread…” Genesis 3: 17-19

Since then started the battle for our daily bread: hunger, misery, the destruction of nature, ecological imbalances and violence over a grain of rice. Notice that this suffering doesn’t exist amongst animals – unless provoked by man.

Yet God already provided a solution to this curse. It’s called tithe. Giving back to God the first ten percent of everything that we receive is the new tree that God planted in this world, in order to limit human greed. That is why he purposely linked tithing to nature cooperating with humans once again. It’s a sort of reconciliation between the natural elements and the tither. Observe how nature behaves towards tithers:

And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven… And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts; And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land. Malachi 10-12

God wants to restore our living conditions peacefully, and let us enjoy our work. Unfortunately, many are not satisfied with the ninety percent and make a fuss about the ten percent as well.

They exchange everything for a single tree. They prefer the war against nature than its cooperation.

It’s like they like to suffer.
