Why does your prejudice yell: "I'm dumb!"
No matter how absurd the scene in the video above may seem, it’s more common than it seems. And not only with regards to race. Prejudice is all around, whether due to religion, social status, culture, or finances. It’s like Robert Anthony says: “Most people don’t think. They just rearrange their prejudices.”
Once I was treated with great disdain by an evangelical leader, who met me for the first time, just because he had drank of the media’s poison in regards to Universal. He had formed an opinion about my character before even knowing me. What I could tell that he felt about me, because of the way he treated me, was something that I can’t summarize in one word. A mixture of disgust with pity and a dash of anger, but I know I’ve been prejudiced before myself. It’s an evil that is only resolved through the development of our intelligence.
Intelligence and prejudice don’t mix. Where intelligence is weak then prejudice is strong. I’m not referring to a specific kind of intelligence, but standard intelligence. Someone can be very intelligent for engineering but completely biased (and stupid) in regards to a person from another country, for example.
We need to open our mind and not pre-judge people. Hear the other side of the story.
Prejudice can be a person’s or a society’s greatest obstacles on its way to reaching real progress.
Have you been victim of prejudice before? Have you ever been prejudiced and something made you change? Tell us your story below.
