On a TV commercial being broadcast in India, a couple is seated on a sofa. The husband reads a newspaper, ignoring his beautiful wife as her face shows an expression of feeling rejected.

What could this advertisement be selling?

Moments later, the scene of frustrated love brings out soap as the main actress is taking a shower. But she’s not using any kind of soap or gel. No, she’s using a skin whitening gel, which then informs the person watching, through a cartoon picture, that it whitens your vagina. After applying the cream, rose pedals appear on screen; and in the end, as in any good Bollywood film, the couple is hugging happily.

In India, The Philippians, and other Asian countries, skin whitening creams (from a company in China) in the industry of cosmetics has an inflow of $500 million annually. Women and men with dark skin want to appear lighter.

All the while, in the West, women and men with lighter skin search for bronzing products and treatments to… appear darker.

The other day when I went to cut my hair. As I sat and let the barber work on my raven black hair, without a thought in mind to ask his opinion about it, he commented: “Having curls at the end of your hair is not bad at all. If it was straight like mine you would have a lot of trouble to keep it brushed.”

Have you noticed how the majority of people are not happy with what they have?

It can be an indication that you should start to worry. Especially, when you:

• Don’t know who you really are, you don’t have your own identity
• Depend on the opinion and approval of others in regards to yourself
• Are spiritually empty
• Don’t love yourself
• Don’t know God, nor what He thinks of you
• Are easily led by the crowd

… So, you will never truly be happy – not even after using the products they sell you, or when you receiving compliments, or when the person you love tells you they like you just the way you are.

Happiness comes from inside out. They still haven’t thought of a product that can fix this. Yet.
