WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO START READING THE BIBLE? 5 TIPS
Several questions about reading the Bible are asked, so I have separated 5 essential tips for you who want to delve deeper into the Word of God. Enjoy!
Someone asked me a very pertinent question: what is the best way to start reading the Bible: from the beginning or randomly? The Bible is a long book. In some places, there are words you understand; in other areas, there are some you don’t. So, in the beginning, we get lost. But you must have this habit of reading the Word of God. Insert this into your morning habits.
I would say that when you are already familiar with the Bible, it is easier to open it randomly and extract something for your spiritual food from that passage. However, it is only when you already understand. For those who are starting out, I will recommend the books you can read first:
1) Genesis: the book deals with the beginning of everything. It would be best to have this basis because you will understand the world’s creation and how things broke down from the Garden of Eden. You will see that God has tried a new beginning for humanity and how we got here. You will see that humanity does not change. Today’s man is similar to the one in the beginning, and human nature hasn’t changed.
2) Gospel of John: is like the “Genesis” of the New Testament. There are four gospels, but you will read the book of John first. Here, we have an understanding of the mission of the Lord Jesus. Who was the Lord Jesus there in the creation, at the beginning of everything. Then, when He came to this world in the flesh for a mission. And how He lived the 33 years, culminating at the end of his mission on the cross. Finally, He left a mission for all of us. The book is easier to understand because it was written for a universal audience. It’s for Jews and Gentiles.
3) Gospel of Mark: it is the shortest gospel and a quick overview of what happened in the life of the Lord Jesus.
4) Gospel of Luke: it is the most complete gospel because Luke was a doctor, so he was concerned with the logic of things, the sequence, and the order.
5) Gospel of Matthew.
If you are reading in this sequence, you will have an excellent understanding of the Bible.
Some tips for you not to stumble along the way:
- Don’t try to understand everything at once: the Word of God works as we need it. God never says everything we want to know, He says what we need to know. Not everything we would like, but what is required at that moment. Stay tuned for what God will speak to you.
- Some parts will not be so clear (don’t get stuck in them; focus on what you understand). The secret of true faith is not the biblical knowledge itself but the practice of what is written. Bible students will not necessarily be saved. The Lord Jesus had His most significant clashes with the doctors of the Law (those who studied the Scriptures but did not practice it). The most essential thing in Bible reading is to do it. The little you understand, do it. So, you will become the Word itself.
