Up next: Scenes from the rest of your life

[This post started here. But there’s some who say it started here.]

Everyone has a story. And as life goes on, we create our story through decisions, choices and attitudes. Just as an actor in a movie, we have to continue fulfilling the role we took on.

I’m not only talking about your story in past tense, what happened to you before today, but also—and especially—what is still going to happen. The future, the story which still hasn’t happened, gives us the chance to change the course of our future in the role we portray.

What kind of story are you living? What is the role that you play in this story? How do you want it to be from now on?

The story you deeply believe in, the one you embrace and tell yourself over and over, that’s the one your life will become. For example, a story in these words: “I am a natural-born salesman,” will probably make your future that of someone who is always selling something—whether it’s a product, a philosophy of life, or even yourself. “I’m not a one woman kind of guy.” This is a story that many men tell themselves and live. “I can’t find anyone to love,” is the story that many single people live, because of the story they told themselves a million times. So, they end up assuming the role of an old maid. Self-fulfilled prophecies.

Previously, I said that the power of a story is linked to the capability of making it happen. That’s why, it’s intelligent for me to make an alliance with someone who is capable, and interested, in making my story a success. I don’t know anyone more capable of this than God himself.

God is the great Director of the story which includes all of humanity. He searches for people, let’s call them “actors,” that believe in this story and accept to take the role that He wants for them. In order to figure out God’s story, I have to understand the role that He wants me to live, believe in, and assume totally. A good actor embodies his role. He spends months preparing, getting into the mindset of the character, imitating the voice, wearing the clothes… Many actors even have difficulties letting go of the character after film production ends…

In order to get into God’s story, and land a major role, I have to behave in the same way. I have to believe with all my strength in the role that He has for me—to become the character He wants. If He say’s “Be the blessing,” as He told Abraham, I have to assume this role and become a blessing. If He say’s “You can move mountains with your word, and nothing will be impossible for you,” (Matthew 17:20), so I have to take this role by the horns and act accordingly.

This is how men and women of faith stood out in God’s story—believing, and assuming the role God had given them. The promises of God are there for those who want to believe. He already planned for you to have the role of a major character, but if you don’t believe in it, this role will go to someone else.

  • Someone will be a big impresario in their field this year. It could be you or your competitor.
  • Someone will leave their horror story and become a new person. It could be you or someone else who believes.
  • Someone will stop being poor and turn into a millionaire because they believed in a business idea. It could be you or someone who is more daring.
  • Someone will leave all their goods and personal plans to go to the altar to preach the gospel wherever God calls. It could be you or someone who values this more than anything.
  • Someone will be very happy with their new love, and forget the pain of a bitter divorce. It could be you or another divorced person who embraced this new role for themselves.

Get into God’s story. Assume your role. Behave as someone who believes completely.

It’s up to you to decide the next scenes…
