TRY A LITTLE LESS

When you were a child, you heard your parents say that you needed to study, graduate, make money, travel, etc. This creates in human beings an uncontrolled care for the things of this life. But try doing this a little less and notice the impressive results.

We are often presented with news of an unexpected and even, in a way, unnecessary death (someone who died by accident, died in the prime of their life, or committed suicide). We will discuss that, but I’d like to discuss an issue in the ‘Parable of the Sower’.

The Lord Jesus told this story to illustrate what happens to His Word in this world. And I’m going to focus on the third seed, which is the one that fell among the thorns. When it was developing, the thorns suffocated it and it didn’t thrive. And the Lord Jesus explained what that seed meant: “Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful” (Matthew 13:22 ).

So, the Word of God comes to everyone. And some people receive it in their hearts and sympathise with the Bible. However, everything that concerns our survival in this life is a care of this world. That is, you have to work. And, in the job hunt, the father and mother tell the child that they have to study. Because the child has to be prepared to earn money, have comfort, and a better life. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but I’m saying how ‘the cares of life’ can harm someone.

Then, the relationships come. When they are in love, it seems their life stops. They only see the other person. There is also care for the family. Then, the long holiday comes. “I heard that this place is among the top 10 in Brazil. Let’s go there.” All the cares of this life fill the person’s life.

But it doesn’t end there. There is social media. You have to take a picture of the food, the bed, the puppy, the car, everything. You have to look for the likes, and the comments. All these are the ‘cares of this world.’

Then comes the question: “Why doesn’t the Word of God enter my life? I go to church, I listen to the messages, and I like it, but after it is over, I don’t see the fruit of it in my life”. It’s because the ‘thorns’ are choking the Word. You don’t have time to think about the Word. And comes the deceitfulness of riches. Everyone is programmed for ‘desirable things’. There’s a advert on TV, and you think: “I desire that person’s life”. Then, you go to the shop and buy the product from the advert (getting into credit card debt). It’s an engine where everything deceives them, so they have something to satisfy their heart. And what about the Word of God? It is suffocated, and it bears no fruit.

What are we going to do? We will not stop living in this world. We have to work and get things done. But with less concern, anxiety, envy, comparisons, and worry about unimportant things.

If you say that the Word of God is more important, then live like it, and practice it. Put it at the top of your priorities. Start the day by reading the Bible. Put the Word of God above the bad news. Go to the House of God. Stop making excuses because it might be too late if you don’t wake up.

Meditate on this subject and watch the video above.
