THINKING IS (STILL) FREE

Use the trash bin in your mind to eliminate what is not good for you. “There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.” Mark 7:15

The Lord Jesus, one day, summoned the multitude, all who were with Him. “When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear Me, everyone, and understand: There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man” (Mark 7:14-15).

In the context of this Word, if you read chapter 7 of the Gospel of Mark, you will understand that the religious ones were criticising Jesus, as it used to happen. Jesus was a stumbling block to them, a thorn in the flesh or their eyes because He did not follow traditions or religious customs.

Religion usually does this: it pays more attention to the form of things than to the essence. So, Jesus was severely criticised on this occasion because – see how shocking – His disciples did not wash their hands before eating.

Of course, it is good practice to wash your hands before eating. But I believe that all of us here, someday in life, because of hunger or the lack of accessible water, have already eaten without washing our hands. But we are alive to tell the story. It’s a good practice, but it’s not always possible.

But the religious could not accept that the disciples of this “rabbi”, this “master”, Jesus, did not wash their hands before eating. “If He were of God, He would certainly make the disciples wash their hands before eating, as our religion commands, so that we may be pure, not contaminated by anything.”

Jesus then calls these religious hypocrites, saying that they cared much more about the food, which was contaminating once the worst contamination was inside them.

Once, someone wanting to justify their mistakes to me said: “It’s because I had many bad examples”. You had bad examples, but you also, for sure, had good examples. You may be contaminated in college, school, work or even church (because even in church, you can be contaminated). So, bad examples are everywhere. You can let yourself be contaminated or shield yourself from them.

Jesus said that it is possible for you not to get contaminated with what comes from outside. Now, what comes out of you can contaminate you.

The Lord Jesus explained in more detail about this when he said: “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man” (Mark 7:21-23).

Pay attention: you are a factory of good or bad things. You can produce within yourself hurt, hatred, prostitution, lies, everything bad.

You can do that, but it will end your life. This will kill you, contaminate you. You may be poor for now, but your current situation is no excuse. They have not yet invented a way to charge for thoughts. Thinking is still free. And good or bad can come out of you.

The evil you produce within yourself will destroy you. It’s worse than contracting a virus or taking poison. It may not destroy you overnight, but it will corrode you to the point that you totally disappear.

And, in the end, your soul goes to the place it created here on this Earth, which is evil, everything that is contrary to God. You will end up in hell, which is the distance from God, the absence of God and the presence of all evil.

If you want to be pure, free from evil, then be careful with what comes out of you. Be careful with your thoughts and bad feelings.

Live by this rule:

Isn’t this feeling good? Throw it away!

Isn’t this thought good? Throw it away!

And decide to use your mental, emotional and spiritual ability to generate and create what is good. That, yes, will make you grow.
