THINGS THAT YOU DON'T CHOOSE vs CHOICES THAT CHANGE THINGS
Some people don’t know how to value something important. Reflect on this matter
In some things in life, we have no choice. We don’t choose the body we were born into. Whether you were born male or female; with a privileged body. If you were born in one country or another. You didn’t choose certain things that you received upon your arrival on this Earth. These things were not decided by you. It’s like a card game where you have to play with the cards that are in your hand. That’s our life.
However, this does not mean that for the rest of our life, when we acquire the ability to reason and make choices, we cannot do what’s best. Many people underestimate this. Generally speaking, even with the things you didn’t choose, you can do something about them. You can, for example, not complain about your conditions. You can take this history, this past of yours, and make it different. “I’m strong because I’ve been through it all.” That’s a choice you make.
In the Bible, we have the “Parable of the Prodigal Son” (Luke 15), which may help to illustrate something. He took the inheritance money, went into the world and wasted it all. And maybe, like the Prodigal Son, you haven’t valued the parents you had, the family you grew up in or the mercy God has offered you so many times (maybe you were supposed to be dead). You haven’t come to your senses to think, “What am I doing with my life?” It was that moment that changed the life of the Prodigal Son. But he returned home and his father accepted him.
See the power of choice: that young man did not stand on the error of pride. He didn’t dig deeper at the bottom of the pit like a lot of people do. Stop digging and wake up to life. You can change your life now. Do what you have to do. Ask for forgiveness if you have to. You don’t have to keep perpetuating the mistakes of the past. God gives you the power to change. What are you going to do with this power that God has given you? The Father is waiting for you.
