THE SEAT, THE PATH, AND THE COUNSEL

The first psalm of the Bible, in its very first verse, reveals profound lessons about three words: seat, path and counsel.

Faith teaches that nothing in life happens by chance. Every choice, no matter how small it may seem, defines the direction you will take. And Psalm 1 shows this very clearly: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”

These three words – counsel, path and seat – reveal stages of influence that can bring you closer to God or completely keep you away.

The counsel that deceives

It all starts with counsel. Today, everyone has an opinion, a video, a “tip” to give. But the question is: who have you been listening to?

Social media is full of people who speak beautifully, but whose counsel does not come from God—it comes from the world, their interests, and their ego. The person who does not have his faith firm, who does not seek direction in the Word, easily falls for this deception. So, I say: be careful with what you consume and who you follow. Every counsel is a seed – and it will always bear fruit, good or bad.

The path that imprisons

After the person accepts the wrong counsel, they start walking the wrong way. It’s the second step. The path represents the actions, places and habits you adopt.

Many think they are “in control”, but in fact they have already begun to walk a path that takes them away from God – whether on websites, in conversations, or in spiritually dangerous environments. The mobile phone, for example, can take someone to places where the body has never been, but the heart can get lost.

The seat that destroys

And finally, the seat comes. When someone sits on the seat of the scornful, it means that they have already become part of that group, that thought, that behaviour. The person no longer merely listens to or walks with the unglodly—they already identify with them. That’s where the danger materialises. Because what begins with a simple influence ends with a total destruction of spiritual life.

Choose well who you listen to

That’s why I constantly repeat: it depends on you.

You choose who you will listen to, who you will walk with and who you will surround yourself with. The life you have today is the direct result of these choices. So, before blaming God for something that went wrong, stop and think: what counsel have I been following? What paths have I walked? What seat have I been sitting on?

Happiness, blessing, and direction come from a single source: walk with God and follow His Word.
