THE POWER OF WRITING FOR YOURSELF
I challenge you to watch this video until the end and start practicing today.
Today I want to talk to you about something simple and transformative: writing what we need to do. First of all, this practice has accompanied the human being since the beginning, long before schools and books. Since then, as soon as the tools and fire appeared, they were already trying to record their thoughts in figures and symbols. Why? After all, talking wasn’t enough. Writing was born from the need to express and record what we think and feel, something that memory often cannot keep.
Write to yourself
We usually write to others: teachers, colleagues, readers and people on mobile phones. However, there is a special power in writing to ourselves. This is because when we make a list of everything we need to accomplish, we create immediate focus, organise our thoughts, and take the weight off our memory. Instead, by repeating “I can’t forget”, you put it on paper and free your mind.
In addition, our brain was created to solve problems and create solutions, not to remember small tasks like buying milk. Therefore, when we get these things out of our heads and move on to a list, we help the mind do what it does best.
How to start
I propose a challenge: sit quietly, close the door and take a paper and pen. Start writing everything you need to do:
• simple tasks;
• pending matters;
• Personal commitments;
• spiritual decisions;
• Internal changes.
It doesn’t matter the size. Write and then go back to the list to choose what you can do now. Start with the simplest. And, when finished, cross out the item. This gesture creates a powerful sense of progress.
Make it a daily habit. Read your list every morning. Some tasks will be fast, others will take weeks or months, but leave everything on record. Gradually, you will see that you achieve more in a month than you have achieved in years.
A spiritual principle
The Bible itself teaches us: “Write the vision.” God has always instructed His servants to record His words. Writing is direction, focus and faith in action.
And, speaking of focus, we are entering the Fast of Daniel – the last 21 days of the year, from December 10 to 31. It will be a period of silencing distractions and regaining mental clarity. If you want to learn how to do it, go to jejumdedaniel.com and see the instructions.
