THE DAY I REVOLTED OVER A WORD FROM CRISTIANE

A word from Cristiane awakened in me such a great revolt that, from that day on, what was unsolved for 12 years began to change.

Marriage in the Bible is the commitment of a couple’s word; it is a covenant when two people commit their word to be together, to take care of each other and to be exclusive to each other for life for what comes and goes. Marriage is this, it’s not just a ring on the finger. The ring symbolises eternity; you commit to the person and to be with them until the end.

Why do people today, in general, not want to get married? Because people discredit each other, their word no longer has value. When a young man says, “I love you,” you don’t know if he really loves you or has ulterior motives.

Why has marriage failed in many people’s lives? Because the word has lost its value. When people value the word, they are cautious with what they say. This characteristic of having zeal with the word comes from God because He is the Word, and He cannot lie; what He says has to be fulfilled. This is the main characteristic of God because He is the only one who never fails in His Word.

So, if you want to be a person of God, you have to start looking at your word, not just the Word of God, but the word you give to God as well as the one you give to other people.

Marriage is this — The word.

What does a woman want from a man? She wants the security that he will be with her no matter what happens. He will be by her side when she is in crises, difficulties or struggles. That’s what counts in marriage. It’s not flowers or walks in picturesque places—nothing like this. That all passes!

When Cristiane spoke about separation, I revolted against that word, saying: “No! I won’t break this covenant; I won’t dishonour the Word of God by failing in my marriage; I’ll do what I must do.” I decided that inside me that night. And I corrected her then: “Never repeat this word! I don’t know how to solve our problems, but I know we will solve them.” Nothing had been resolved yet when I told her that, but she was sure of my word. That back then was what started the solution.

Women want a man’s word. When you value the word, you bring God close because He is the Word.
