NIP, NIP!

The boat is sinking, and are you still playing the violin? Keeping a stiff upper lip will end up taking you to a bad place.

The Lord Jesus gave a somewhat radical but wise teaching that, unfortunately, many people do not practice. He said, “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.” (Matthew 5:29).

See that Jesus purposely uses members of our body that are essential. Imagine yourself without your right eye. He still says: “And if your right hand…”. Which members of our body could be more valuable? But Jesus was emphatic in his statement because He wanted us to understand the importance of the whole, the most important about what is essential, but not as much. What do you prefer? Have your eye plucked out or your life? Of course, neither, but if you have to make a choice, it is natural that you will choose your life, which is not limited to your eye.

Naturally, the Lord Jesus was not talking about “eyes and hands” but what leads us to stumble in faith. So, many people tolerate what makes them stumble because they like it. And, not wanting to give up, they put their whole life at risk. It’s like a couple who prefers to separate than share the social media profile password. They lose something more significant because of something smaller.

And I ask you: are you aware of what is taking you to hell (still on this Earth)? Maybe it’s something small that you don’t want to cut off from your life: addiction, pornography, friendship, pride. And with that, you’re sinking.

So, the Lord Jesus left us this precious teaching. If you want wisdom, start identifying everything that makes you stumble in your life. If it leads you to stumble, take it out, throw it away, sacrifice it, and learn to let go.

Watch the video above and meditate on it.
