The anatomy of the human body has a very important lesson that most, unfortunately, ignore: God chose to place our eyes on our faces and not behind our heads. God also designed our bodies to move forward. This indicates that He wants us to look and move forward and not be stuck in the past or look back. Except when it’s for reference. Like a driver who looks in the rearview mirror just to see if there’s something that’s going to crash into him. But he doesn’t keep looking in the rearview mirror all the time, he drives looking straight ahead.

The Word of God, through the prophet Jeremiah, says: “Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you” (Jeremiah 7:23).

That is, for Him to be your God, you need to hear Him. If you don’t hear Him, He’s not your God. Furthermore, people must follow the path that God is ordaining for them.

He continues: “Yet they did not obey or inclined their ear, but followed in the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.” (Jeremiah 7:24).

Do you know what “walking in your counsel” is? It’s when you don’t know where you got it from, you don’t know why you think that way (probably because you gathered information from people around you) but that became your opinion. You say, “I think that’s how it is and that’s how I’m going to do it.” Sometimes you don’t even know the reason for your actions. It is also worth noting that the heart is deceitful, perverse, and corrupt. What’s the result of this?… It’s going backwards. When a person does not want to follow God’s will, they walk backwards. They keep going back to past mistakes.

Therefore, God gave us the intelligence to look at the past and say, “This didn’t work out, so I’m not going to insist on this mistake, because I know it’s going to end wrong again.” In other words, God calls us to repentance.
