Challenge #37

Don’t start before completing Challenge #36.
If you want to join the IntelliMen Project, start from Challenge #1.

Challenge: Learn to do what is right, whether you feel like it or not.

Explanation: One of the greatest discoveries about intelligent faith is that you don’t need to feel like doing what’s right or good. You simply need to do it. Feeling the urge is optional.

Many times this is the difference between mediocre and excellent, loser and winner, a simpleton and an IntelliMan.

A Navy SEAL commander and trainer was the first to teach his soldiers about the 5 minute rule. All Navy SEALs go through rigorous daily training and daily battle against persistent enemies: fatigue, laziness and the urge to quit. The 5 minute rule goes like this: if you just go ahead and start something you don’t feel like doing, within five minutes you will already be totally involved and excited about the activity. Then you just keep it up.

In this challenge I want you to develop the ability to do what’s right even when you don’t feel like it. How many times have you quit something halfway through just because you didn’t feel like doing it any more? How many times have you come up with excuses to justify your laziness and shortcomings?

In the inner battle against themselves… real men always win. Men who do battle with their feelings overcome in everything.

Start this week’s challenge by watching this video.

Right afterwards, write the phrase “Don’t just feel. Do it,” on a sheet of paper. Make sure to put it in a place you will see it several times a day. Alternatively, you can make copies and spread it around in strategic locations: your headboard, mirror, wallet, cellphone, computer, office, fridge, etc.

This week look for opportunities to apply this principle and do what needs to be done, whether you feel like it or not. The more you do this, the more you’ll be exrcising this mental “muscle” and more prepared you will be for a life of greater victory. Remember the 5 minute rule.

Notebook: Write down a couple of ideas that you realize need to be done right away, even though you don’t feel like it. Start to work on them this week.

Official Partner:  Share your experiences on applying this rule. Ask your partner about his experience. Share tips on how to overcome your lack of motivation.

Deadline: You may begin working on this challenge immediately and complete it before Challenge #38 which you should begin in one week.

Post: After – and only after – you have completed the challenge, post your comments on the IntelliMenWorld Facebook or Twitter page, (not on your own page) and write the following:

IntelliMen Challenge #37 done: Whether I feel like it or not, I will always do what’s right. (Share any other lesson or experiences you had while doing this challenge.)
