IN 1ST PLACE...
Your daily actions reveal who is in first place in your life. Therefore, it is essential to review them and reorganise your priorities.
Receive, here, a fact about life: something or someone will always occupy the first place in your heart. Because human beings work by prioritising things, our mind is organised this way. We will always put something in 1st place because we must decide what to do first. Thus, something or someone will always occupy this position in our lives.
The human heart has its own hierarchy, which divides it into classes. And sometimes, we do it unconsciously. This can change throughout our lives. In an instance, moment, in childhood, it could be your father and your mother. As a teenager, you can put your girlfriend first, your friends, your freedom, or your desire to assert yourself (doing what you want and not what your parents say). Then, you can dedicate yourself to work, and in a near-death experience, you start caring for your health.
But the first place will never be unoccupied in someone’s life, and there will always be something or someone there. And that’s where our best efforts, resources, attention, and time go. This is an exact way to discover what comes first in our lives.
It is also important to note that there is a massive discrepancy between what people say that is in the first place in their lives and what they really put there. If you ask on the street, they will say that parents are in the first place, for example, or some other politically correct answer. But a more careful analysis of these people’s lives shows that they are often discrepant. If you ask what was the last time the person spoke to their parents, you will receive silence.
So, what we do shows what is essential in our lives because there is no way to lie about our actions. So, you have to analyse what you have been doing for you to find out what, in fact, is in the first place in your life.
In Matthew, in chapter 19, between verses 16 and 23, we see the story of the rich young man. He knew it was necessary to inherit eternal life and asked the Lord Jesus how. This is a crucial question because if you don’t think about eternity often, you are wasting your life and taking a massive risk with your soul. You’re not this body. Your body is a temporary vehicle that your soul is using. This body is dying, but the soul does not die. It’s eternal.
However, that young man brought his wealth first in his heart. And the Lord Jesus showed it to him. The young man dropped his countenance, turned around and left, and didn’t do what the Lord Jesus said. In the example of the rich young man, you see a widespread situation in people’s lives: what they say that is in the first place in the heart is not what they really are because their actions indicate this.
Jesus had already said: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
Nothing nor anyone can take God’s place in your life, and anything you put there will enslave you. Suppose you do not organise the priorities in your life in practice. In that case, unfortunately, you will be miserable and, in the end, lose eternal life.
