I WARNED YOU: THE APPROPRIATE BUMPS INTO THE INAPPROPRIATE ALL THE TIME
We live in an era in which many have moved away from God, reversed roles and confused freedom with disorder.
Did you know that the appropriate borders the inappropriate? Just as two countries share a street, good and evil coexist side by side in the world. In many cases, this line is invisible, without walls or signs. Thus, good and bad people walk together and live closely, even inside the same house. There are no labels. It only reveals what is in each one when their actions are manifested.
This proximity between right and wrong is ancient. Since Eden, God has placed the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden (Genesis 2:9). It was in the centre, accessible from any direction. Why? To teach human beings self-control, freedom of choice, and moral responsibility. There is no real freedom without the possibility of saying “no.”
The good and the bad walk hand in hand
The Christian life requires discernment. In everything – looks, clothing, entertainment, music, behaviour, use of money – there is the appropriate and the inappropriate. And the transition between one and the other can be subtle: a click, a look, a word. Sin lies at the door (Genesis 4:7), ready to cross the line separating good from evil.
Therefore, it is essential to establish clear inner limits. Although the moral border is often invisible to the eye, it needs to be very well defined within us. Without these limits, we risk destroying our conscience, reputation, marriage, work, and spiritual life.
Who defines what is appropriate?
God. He set the standards from the beginning. When human beings try to define right and wrong, everything is reversed: right becomes wrong, and wrong becomes right. This happens because the world has moved away from God, His Word and His direction.
Do you want to live with wisdom, peace and purpose? Consult the Scriptures. You may not find direct answers about everything, such as what to watch on TV. But the Bible offers principles that will help you discern what is convenient or not.
Examine your life. Stay alert. The inappropriate can be very close—sometimes, a small slip is enough to cause a fall. Don’t play with the limits. Live consciously, seeking to please God in everything.
