I don't know what to do
We’ve all been there. If you run you’ll get chased down, if you stay you’re doomed. The options before you are horrible. That’s when that feeling of helplessness strikes and you think: “I don’t know what to do.”
Perhaps it’s a divine reminder that we’re only human. A nudge from heaven invites us to look up. And that’s exactly what a man named Jehoshaphat did.
The year was approximately 860 B.C. and Jehoshaphat was king of Judah. This event is marked in history. Various powerful nations united against him. Jehoshaphat had no where to run. This problem wouldn’t just affect him, but devastate the entire nation. What did he do?
Judge our enemies oh God, because we’re not strong enough to resist the immense army that comes against us. We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on You!
Those of you in trouble, the secret lies in this last phrase. You can read the rest of the story of what happens to Jehoshaphat, after his humble confession to God, in the book of 2 Chronicles chapter 20.
But the lesson is:
If you don’t know what to do, it’s because your eyes are not on God. You’ve been looking at the problem, your condition, negative words, to the doctor’s results, what your lawyer said, or to the terrorizing image that your situation created… But you haven’t looked at God.
When you look to Him, what do you see? Physically nothing, but through the eyes of faith, you see Someone a million times stronger than your problem. You see a light, hope, the word of Someone who doesn’t lie.
You recognize that you don’t have the strength, but you trust that He will deliver you from that situation. You don’t know how, but you know He knows. So you believe, you trust, and you move forward.
So, if you don’t know what to do about your situation, consider where you’ve been looking.
When you fix your eyes on the One who can, then you can too.
