“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go” (Isaiah 48:17). It draws attention when God emphasises that what He teaches us is useful. That is, there is a lot of knowledge that does not add to your life. And it’s very easy today, in the internet age, to learn what’s useless.

So it’s not you saying, “I like this or that”. Not everything we like is good. There are things you like that harm you, are useless, take your time and rob you of opportunities that don’t come back. You need to learn to employ your resources in what will add to your life.

Since I tried to apply myself to the useful teaching of the Word of God, this has formed me, and it has made me a better person, being moulded every day. We are a work in progress. How does God work in us? By His Word.

The problem is that many people are prepared to watch in full a favourite TV series for hours, and music videos, but don’t have a minute to dedicate to what will be useful in life. It’s not God’s fault. Would you like to have God Himself as your teacher? He’s available! But He’s not going to grab you by the collar and drag you. It is you who have to seek Him.
