HOW AND WHERE TO START READING THE BIBLE

Many people want to read the Bible but have no idea how or where to start. In this video, I will give you some tips. Apply them and see how God will speaking to you.

“Where to start reading the Bible?” Before answering this question, I would like to explain why you should read the Bible.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

In other words, God is the Word itself and manifests Himself through it. What has God left us with? He left his Word. He banned the building of images but always instructed His servants to write. This is because the Word has spirit. The Lord Jesus said that His words are “spirit and life.” Why meditate on the Word of God? Because it vitalises your mind, brings health to your body, and brings direction. If you think: who is the person to say the most important thing in this world? There is no one greater than God. And you see, in this world, people pay loads of money to go to a good college, to attend lectures. Human beings should be much more interested in what God says.

So, how and where to start?

Many suggest a “reading plan” (“read a chapter a day”, etc.), but I’m not a big fan of a reading plan. I don’t condemn anyone who does this. If it works for you, great. But I see that the person still doesn’t even know the Word of God and suddenly commits to reading 5 chapters a day. In the rush of everyday life, most people cannot do this. And if they didn’t read it yesterday, they have 10 chapters to read today.

And the Bible is much more than a reading schedule. It has to become, in fact, a habit for you (just like you eat and sleep). Jesus said that man will not live by bread alone but by the Word that comes from the mouth of God.

I advise reading the Word as a tithe you give God. It’s a tithe of your time. “Tithe” is the firstfruits, the first part of something. When you wake up in the morning, thank God for the night’s rest, present the day to Him and ask God to direct your mind as you read the Scriptures.

The second thing you do is open the Bible and read it (before looking at social media or any information in your head). Don’t keep calculating the verses; read slowly, taste them, and pay attention to each word. Who is talking? What is it talking about? Who is it speaking to? This is an exercise. You begin to understand the spirit of the Word, and God speaks to you beyond what is written.

When I’m reading, and God says something to me, I stop there and try to think about what He’s saying. I often return to that subject throughout the day or the next day so that it becomes part of me. If God’s Word doesn’t become part of you, it’s not worth it.

As a final tip: start with the gospel of John. He quotes the gospel story in a language that is easy to understand for a broad audience and was written as a tool to bring the Word to anyone.

Try it and see the effect of this daily reading on your life. Watch the video above.
