HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY JESUS HAD TO DIE ON THE CROSS?
The answer is straightforward and revealing; may it help you follow the right path!
Unfortunately, the cross has become of no effect on many people’s lives. People who know the cross as a symbol understand that the Lord Jesus died on the cross, but they do not benefit from it because they do not understand it. Why did the Lord Jesus have to die on the cross? Why wasn’t it because of an illness by drowning, by being stoned, or with a stab?
Why did God choose the cross to sacrifice His Son for us? That wasn’t by chance.
One of the main reasons is: “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on the tree”)” (Galatians 3:13). In Deuteronomy 23, there is an affirmation in the Law of Moses that the accursed would be hung on the tree. It was, for everyone, an exhibition of the consequence of disobedience. So, as the Lord Jesus came with a mission (part of it was to cancel the curse), He died through the cross. Therefore, the whole curse of humanity fell on Him. It was like a magnet, a sponge. Thus, those who believe in Him are free from the curse. In Deuteronomy 28, for example, several curses are described.
God wants to prevent the curse from happening. So much so that He sent His Son to make Himself a curse for us. That’s what the cross means. This is one of the reasons for the death of the cross. Those who passed by the cross; saw and thought: “look, it’s the cursed one!” Jesus went through this death to take our curses upon Himself. Now the question is: has this affected your life by cancelling the curses that others carry here on earth, or have you been living as cursed as any other human being? Because if you understand the cross, you can be free from the curses. If you are under a curse, only One can deliver you from it: the Lord Jesus.
